Recalls
There have been a number of recalls lately due to lead present in toys, whether it is metal, paint or plastic colorants. This is very problematic in that if a child ingests these items, the lead will leach out in the stomach and it enters the bloodstream and is absorbed and stored in many tissues and organs in the body, including the liver, kidneys, brain, teeth and bones. High levels can cause serious health problems in your children and can affect almost every organ system of the body, causing many different symptoms. Many of these toys have come from China, which we all know has lately had a spate of problems with safe products.
Another type of products that have made news lately are the toys that have strong magnets. The problem with these is that many households have very young children that may come in contact with toys intended for older children. These magnets can become dislodged and are very small, making them very difficult to find. These magnets will attract anything from another magnet to a piece of steel or iron. If this happens in the digestive system, these magnets pull with such strong force that they have actually caused irreparable damage to internal organs like the stomach or intestines. In many cases, these children have required surgery to remove these. Some have even died. It is important to ensure that these products are removed from your home until your children get past the point of putting virtually any object in their mouths.
